Pafians reunite at Pergamos park on the 5th of November 2000 Hundreds of Greek and Turkish Cypriot Pafians reunited at Pergamos park on Sunday the 5th of November 2000. The meeting was the result of the effort of YEP5, a bicommunal youth group consisting of 50 young Cypriots who either they live in Pafos or whose origins are from the same area. The meeting was emotional as many Pafians met their co-villagers for the first time after 26 years or in some cases after 35 years. For a few of them however this was not their first time; they had met again during the first such event organised by the youth groups last July. In a short ceremony, the chairman of the Turkish Cypriot Pafians offered the Greek Cypriots from Pafos a bouquet of flowers, a symbolic present to the Pafians who still live there, as he said. A representative of the Greek Cypriot Pafians offered a box of Yeroskipou Delights and a photographic album of the village expressing the hope that in a united Cyprus all Greek and Turkish Cypriots will live in happiness and prosperity. Most of the participants in the event after they had spent the day together with their co-villagres from "the other side", left with the promise to meet again. Co-villager's meetings have been organised since last July by Youth Groups and other organisations and have become a regular means of communication between co-villagers and friends who live on both sides of the divide. | ||
