Story of Two Fathers
From an e-mail by Nicos Anastasiou

On Sunday, the 30th of September, there were about 1000 people in a dusty, run down place in the middle of nowhere called the Pergamos 'park'. Among them there was a T/C whose father was killed by G/Cs. This man had come to an earlier meeting that we had organised some months ago in the same park and at that time explained to some G/Cs that despite what had happened he did not have hatred in his heart for the G/Cs. He expressed the wish to meet one G/C who, like him, had lost a loved one, but had no feelings of hatred or revenge against the T/Cs. His story was mentioned in a TV programme in Paphos by a G/C, Elpida Mala, who made his request known to the Paphos G/C public. And a few days later a G/C man telephoned her, saying that he had also lost his father, that he would like to meet this T/C and that he wanted to go to the next meeting in Pergamos whenever that would be. And this next meeting was on Sunday, the 30th of September. Both men were there. Elpida Mala introduced the two men to each other. They shook hands and then walked to a more quiet place in the park and talked - just the two of them. They told each other their stories of how they had lost their fathers and how they felt about it. A bond was created between these two men. They decided that they wanted to continue meeting and to bring along other people they know. They parted at the end of the day with a hug and a kiss that real friends in Cyprus give to each other.

This took place on the last day of the September 2001 project that was called, "Acknowledging each other's pain - Celebrating our togetherness".

There is a lot more that happened on that day that I hope to be able to write about in the very near future. I need a bit of time.
